Over 290 persons quarantined at Nilwala school test negative

The Athuraliya Medical Officer of Health (MOH) said that 293 of 310 persons who were quarantined at the Nilwala College of Education in Akuressa were sent home on the first day of the quarantine period after testing negative for the coronavirus.

The PCR examination of 310 quarantined persons was carried out on the 28th. On the 31st, the test reports were received and 17 of the test subjects were found to be COVID-19-infected and were sent to the relevant hospitals for treatment.

The Nilwala College, which used to be a quarantine center, will be disinfected for three days and converted into a treatment centre for COVID-19 patients, the Health Department said.

The equipment required for PCR tests was provided by the Matara District Medical Officer of Health. Athuraliya Health Medical Officer D. Hettiarachchi and Additional Medical Officer of Health Jayantha Mallikarachchi; led by Administrative Public Health Inspector A.C. Jayaweera, Public Health Inspectors K.M. Manamperi, Anjana Weerasinghe, and Nadeesh Malshan; conducted the investigation.
