A policy decision should be made on providing residential vocational training for three months the least for students sitting for the O/ L and A/L, exams, Renewable Energy Sources Development State Minister Dumindha Dissanayake said.

He said that such a procedure would stop the unending flow of job seekers in the Government sector armed with only O/L or A/L certificate without any other vocational training. He was participating in a meeting held for exchanging views and reviewing shortcomings in advancing the proposed rural development, national rural economy development plan by President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa at the Anuradhapura Provincial Council Auditorium chaired by Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Namal Rajapaksa.

State Minister Dumindha Dissanayake said that according to the reports, there were 2,800 teacher vacancies in the district despite every year new teaching appointments are made to strengthen the education sector in the North Central Province.

“The reason for this anomaly is that there have been no criteria in placing teachers in accordance with vacancies at schools in the region,” the State Minister said.

He said that the practice of detailing graduate teachers at primary level classes shall be done away with to do justice to both teachers and students.
