Ruhunu College turned into COVID-19 treatment centre

Taking into consideration the recent rise in COVID-19 patient numbers in Galle and its suburbs, the health authorities are making arrangements to transform the Ruhunu National College of Education into a coronavirus treatment bay, Southern Province COVID-19 Coordination Centre sources disclosed.

A few weeks ago, the Army used the institution as a quarantine centre. As the institute is situated at an isolated land of about 25 acres in the Kurundduwatta are of Walahanduwa in Akmeemana, health authorities have selected the place as ideal for a pandemic treatment sanatorium.

The Health Ministry has already planned to detail the required medical teams, including the doctors and nursing staffs. The Army has been entrusted with the task of providing the required infrastructure facilities and security arrangements. The provision of food will also be handled by the Army, Coordination Office sources added.
