Two more COVID-19 cases were reported yesterday from Galle, Southern Province Health Services Director’s Office said.

One patient was detected from Beach Road, Gandara. He is a fish dealer at weekly fairs in the district. On October 18, a friend of him from Peliyagoda had visited his place and after spending a day with him, they had gone to Kadawatha.

Thereafter, he had come to know that his friend had got infected with COVID-19 several days later of his visit to Gandara.

Then he had informed about the issue to the Public Health Officer of the area. Subsequently, he together with his family members had undergone self-quarantine. Following a PCR test on him, he had tested positive for the disease.

A 72-year-old person of Thilakapura in Ambalangoda who had been admitted to Karapitiya Teaching Hospital on Wednesday with fever also tested COVID-19 positive following a PCR test.

Health authorities said that husband of the Ambalangoda patient had tested positive for COVID19 after a PCR test on him at the Ambalangoda Fishery Harbour, after which he and his family members were self–quarantined.

The two patients have been sent to the Hambantota Hospital. The number of patients from the Galle district now stands at 87, Galle Health sources said.
