Fraudster who robbed patient of 1.4 mn arrested

The suspect who stole an ATM Card of a patient under treatment at the Nagoda Hospital and withdrew Rs 1.4 million from a bank had been arrested by Kalutara South Police.

Police recovered Rs 0.3 million from the suspect. He had told police that he deposited the balance in an agency to buy a three wheeler.

An investigation was launched following a complaint by patient Jayalath Gunaratne.

He was discharged from the hospital last week, police said.

The suspect was produced before the Kalutara Chief Magistrate on November 4 and remanded 14 days pending further investigations

The Kalutara South Police prosecuted.
