Government will take ICT sector to global platform – Ambassador

Sri Lanka’s UK High Commissioner Saroja Sirisena said that the Sri Lanka Government will make Sri Lanka digitally inclusive and take the vibrant Sri Lankan ICT sector to the global platform.

She was speaking on a webinar on October 29 for launching a Global Referral Programme to introduce the potential of the IT-BPM Industry in Sri Lanka and the opportunities therein to the British Sri Lankan Community for them to contribute to its growth by becoming a referrer of the SLASSCOM Programme.

She said that the High Commission initiated the webinar to provide the opportunity to bring Sri Lankan talent to the global front with the contribution of the diverse and well-established British Sri Lankan community.

The Sri Lanka High Commission in London along with the Association of Professional Sri Lankans in the UK (APSL UK) and the Sri Lanka Association for Software Services Companies (SLASSCOM) organised the webinar. This is the first time the SLASSCOM Global Referral Programme was launched in a foreign country, where over 140 registered participants were present. Board of Investment Director General Sanjay Mohottala spoke on the investment climate and opportunities in the ICT sector, SLASSCOM Chairman Channa Manoharan spoke on Sri Lankan IT-BPM sector/Island of Ingenuity overview, and SLASSCOM Marketing Forum head Mudith Uswatta spoke on SLASSCOM Global Referral programme initiation. The session was moderated by IT Consultant and APSL Past President Mervyn Silva.

APSL UK President Dr. Mahesh De Silva provided an overview of the association and the work they undertook. The Vote of Thanks was delivered by High Commission Commercial Minister Dr. Lakmini Mendis.

The webinar also included a Q&A and networking session.
