Three more COVID cases detected in Batticaloa

A 53-year-old fish trader in Eravur has tested positive for COVID-19 and two more COVID cases have been detected from the Koralai Pattu Central fish market cluster and with them, the affected number has risen to 44 in the Batticaloa District, Health Services Provincial Director Dr. Alagaiyah Lathakaran yesterday said.

The Eastern Provincial Health Authority said that 13 people have tested positive for COVID-19 in the Trincomalee District, 18 cases were detected in Kalmunai and six cases from the Ampara Ddistrict. As the numbers are increasing, the Police and the Army have intensified checking pedestrians and vehicles.

Those travelling in vehicles without face masks are being warned and many of them were taken into custody. However, Government Departments, Banks, markets and companies did not report many positive cases, health sources in the district said.

The Batticaloa Municipality and government departments are providing relief to the public, the sources said.
