‘Elephant-human conflict killed 18 people, 23 jumbos this year’

Eighteen humans and 23 wild elephants were reported to have perished in the elephant-human conflict this year, a Wildlife Official said.

Six people and eight wild elephants died in the conflict in Galgamuwa in the Kurunegala District this year alone. Wild elephants have destroyed about 456 houses in the Wayamba and North Central Provinces this year, he said.

The problem will be given a concrete solution very soon by taking into account a proposal given by local and foreign intellectuals, Kurunegala District Senior Wildlife Officer R.M.Gunarathna said.
