Budget 2021 to benefit masses despite pandemic issues - Minister

Media Minister Keheliya Rambukwella

Media Minister Keheliya Rambukwella yesterday said the government will present a successful Budget targeting on improving the living standards of the people and development of the country despite the enormous difficulties it had to face in the face of an unprecedented pandemic.

While noting that the current government has to present the most challenging budget in recent years, the minister said whatever the difficulties the government will not disappoint the people.

Speaking to the media at the inauguration of a number of road development projects in the Kundasale electorate on Wednesday, the Minister said the government had to look at various new issues when presenting the budget proposals due to the prevailing extraordinary situation.

He said that the government which won the war and took the country on the path of development at a time when 98 per cent of the GDP had to be set aside to pay the loan installments is now taking the country towards the vision of prosperity envisaged by the President and the Prime Minister.

He also stated that the government will not resort to selling any state assets to foreign countries.

“Today, our country as well as many other countries in the world are facing various problems due to coronavirus and the government will take all possible steps to control this disease, whatever the problems may be,”the Minister said.
