Minuwangoda-Peliyagoda COVID-19 cluster tops 9,000 mark

The Minuwangoda-Peliyagoda COVID-19 coronavirus cluster exceeded the 9,000 mark yesterday, the Epidemiology Unit of the Health Ministry stated.

Accordingly, the total number of COVID-19 positive cases detected from the Minuwangoda-Peliyagoda cluster has increased to 9,096.

According to the statistics of the National Operations Centre for the Prevention of COVID-19 (NOPCO) 1,041 of them are employees of the Brandix apparel factory in Minuwangoda and 1,007 of them are from Peliyagoda Fish Market, while the remaining 7,048 patients are contacts of those garment factory-infected employees and the Fish Market.

Of these, 412 employees of the Minuwangoda Garment Factory have fully recovered and 2,788 of their associates have been discharged from hospitals.

According to the statistics of the Epidemiology Unit of the Health Ministry, the total number of COVID 19 positive patients detected in the county has been increased to 12,570 by 10 am yesterday with 5,355 patients under medical care and 7,186 patients being discharged after complete recovery.

The Health Ministry had conducted 11,316 PCR tests on Thursday (5), while it has conducted 568,744 PCR tests to date in the country.
