Beggars in Anuradhapura to be rounded up COVID-19 detection

Following the revelation that a beggar had contracted COVID-19, a special operation was carried out yesterday (08) afternoon to nab about 100 beggars in Anuradhapura with whom he associated with and take them for quarantine.

Anuradhapura Municipal Council Commissioner Ruwan Wijesinghe stated that the Anuradhapura Municipal Council (MMC) has taken steps to arrest and quarantine beggars in Anuradhapura with the assistance of the Police and the armed Forces.

The beggar (80) was diagnosed with the COVID-19 virus, while he was undergoing treatment at Ward 17 of the Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital after a PCR test.

The health department has taken steps to temporarily close the ward 17 of the Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital.

Health officials said they were investigating how the beggar contracted COVID-19.

The remaining beggars have been taken to the Katupuliyankulama Mihindu Vidyalaya in Parasangaswewa for quarantine and PCR tests will be carried out on them soon.
