COVID positive cases reach 13,702

A total of 13,702 COVID-19 positive cases have been detected so far and 5,662 among them are still under medical observation Chief Epidemiologist Dr. Sudath Samaraweera said yesterday

Dr. Samaraweera stated that the total number of COVID-19 positive cases detected from the Minuwangoda-Peliyagoda cluster has increased to 9,937 with the detection of 445 new cases including 86 from the Horana garment factory and 17 from the Welisara Economic Centre on Saturday (7).

He said that more than 600,000 PCR tests have been conducted within the country so far.

Meanwhile, the National Operations Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak (NOCPCO) stated that 47 quarantined individuals left for their homes yesterday after PCR tests. Of them, two persons are from the Dickwella Resort QC and 45 persons from Puvarasakulam QC.

To-date, 63,784 individuals have left for homes after quarantining. As of yesterday morning (8), 2,454 persons in 30 tri service-managed QCs are still in quarantine. Around 11,620 PCR tests were carried out across the country on Saturday and the total PCR tests conducted so far stands at 592,218.

By 6 yesterday morning (8), 537 recovered COVID-19 patients were discharged from hospitals. All of them have been identified as close contacts of the Minuwangoda garment factory infected employees who were in quarantine at QCs.
