Sri Lanka Captain Chamari Atapattu said that she is keen on scoring more runs at the highest level after playing another magnificent innings during the Women’s Twenty20 Challenge Cricket Tournament at the Sharjah Stadium in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Saturday.

The 30-year-old elegant left-hander hit a 48- ball 67 as the defending champions Supernovas cruised into the final by edging- out the Trailblazers by two runs in the third match of the tournament. Atapattu, who hoisted four sixes and struck five boundaries during her entertaining innings, went on to claim the Player-of-the-Match award as well as the Game-changer award.

“I played my normal game. This was a must- win game for us and I had to score runs as the senior player in the side. I just went out there and played my normal game,” Atapattu told after the game.

“I want to improve my game by playing all around the world and so, I do want to share my knowledge with my teammates,” she elaborated.

Even then, Atapattu was somewhat concerned with the situation especially during the latter stages of the game as the Trailblazers kept their chances alive until the last over.

Earlier, Atapattu had a bitter experience in the opening match of the tournament where she ended up in the losing side despite making a top score of 44 against Velocity at the same venue.

“I was a little worried about the last three-four overs. Finally, we won, so it was all good. We are a champion side and we know how to win games,” Atapattu added.

With two good knocks already under her belt, she will have another chance to make an impact with the bat when the same two teams once again clash in the final encounter at the same venue today (9).

The Women’s T20 Challenge is organised and conducted by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in line with the lucrative Indian Premier League (IPL) T20 Tournament, which is now in progress in the UAE.
