SLTB Ruhuna resumes bus services to Colombo

With the lifting of quarantine curfew in the Western Province 22 buses left for Colombo from Southern Province providing passenger services yesterday (09) Sri Lanka Transport Board, Ruhuna Regional Manager Prabath Kumara said.

There are 11 depots functioning under the SLTB’s Southern Province Regional Office. Two buses from each of the above depots left for Colombo yesterday carrying passengers following the prescribed quarantine regulations. The bus services were operated mainly targeting office staff who travel out of the province, Kumara further said.

“Passenger services in rural areas of the province were also operated with limitations. However, there was a marked decrease in the number of passengers,” he added.

Accordingly, about 250 buses operated throughout the province with restricted numbers of passengers on board every bus. Nevertheless, due to the COVID-19 outbreak, the daily revenue of the board has been substantially reduced. Before the pandemic outbreak the daily income of the board which was about Rs. 6.6 million has now reduced to between Rs.1.5 and Rs. 2 million per day,” Kumara pointed out.
