UNP against release of COVID-19 infected back into society

The United National Party (UNP) on Monday said that the Government’s decision of releasing the COVID-19 infected back in to society after 10 days of being tested positive will lead to a catastrophic situation.

The Party in a statement said that releasing COVID-19 infected to society without a PCR test being done on them will trigger serious issues.

The party in a statement said the Government should make the public known how they reached such a decision.

The statement said that the Government should divulge the true state of the COVID-19 pandemic in the country without any delay.

“The people should be given an assurance of their health security before reopening the country,” the statement said.

“The people have faced unprecedented risk as contradictory information with regard to the spread of the coronavirus has emerged”.

The UNP statement said that a senior health officer once had advised the public not to wear face masks. “Today, a fine of Rs.10,000 is imposed on a person who doesn’t wear a face mask,” the statement said.
