The Navy doused a fire that broke out on a multi-day fishing trawler off the southern coast and rescued the fishermen aboard it, last Saturday. The trawler and the fishermen were brought to the Galle Harbour after the fire was put out, the Navy stated in a press release.

The multi-day trawler, named ‘Janath I’, had been returning to the Ambalangoda Harbour when the fire had broken out in its engine room in the seas off Koggala. Meanwhile, Naval personnel aboard an Inshore Patrol Craft (IPC) attached to the Southern Naval Command patrolling the area had spotted the trawler, the statement read.

A Fast Attack Craft (FAC) was also dispatched to the location from the Galle Harbour to expedite the fire-extinguishing efforts. No fishermen aboard the multi-day trawler were injured in the incident, the Navy added.
