Several monks under quarantine after Katina Pinkama

Two COVID-19 infected persons had participated in a Katina Pinkama last Sunday at the Sri Visudharamaya Temple in Metibokke in the Mawathagama Police area in the Kurunegala District.

As a result, the chief monk of the temple and five other monks have been asked to be self-quarantined since Monday.

The two COVID-19 infected are residents of Galagedara. They had participated in the Pinkama not knowing that they have contracted the virus.

The Kurunegala District Regional Health Director’s Office has issued special health guidelines to the Viharadhipathies of temples in the Kurunegala District to be followed when they organise and hold Katina Pinkamas to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Kurunegala District DMO Dr. A. Priyadarshana said that about 345 family health nurses and 126 Public Health Inspectors (PHIs) have been deployed to educate patrons, devotees and monks in the Kurunegala District on COVID-19 preventive measures.
