‘Cabinet yet to make final decision on burials’

Media Minister Keheliya Rambukwella yesterday said that the Cabinet has not reached a final decision on the burial of COVID-19 infected Muslims though it was discussed in Cabinet on Monday.

The Minister, while refuting varying opinions and statements that have been made with regard to the burial of COVID-19 positive Muslims when they died, said that the final decision will be made by the health authorities after having a scientific evaluation.

Minister Rambukwella said that the Cabinet on Monday discussed the possibility of shifting the burial of bodies of COVID-deceased Muslims to a remote area in the dry zone to prevent pollution of the regional water tables.

He said that the Cabinet had given a nod to refer this request back to the health authorities.
