University status for Gampaha Wickramarachchi Ayurvedic Medical Institute

The Gampaha Wickramarachchi Ayurvedic Medical Institute will be converted to a State University and the Gazette notification in this regard has been issued, Highways Minister Johnston Fernando said.

He was speaking at a meeting of indigenous medicine doctors in Kurunegala yesterday.

The Gazette has been issued as per the instructions of Education Minister Prof. G.L.Peiris. The academic work of the new national university will commence rom March 1 next year.

It will be the 16th State University in Sri Lanka.

The University will be named as ‘Gampaha Wickramaarachchi Indigenous Medical University’. It will be administered under a Vice Chancellor and it will comprise four faculties,” the Minister said.
