Itukama Fund spends Rs.105 mn on PCR tests, quarantine facilities

Rs.105 million in the ‘ITUKAMA’ COVID-19 Healthcare and Social Security Fund’ had been spent on PCR tests, quarantine facilities and advisory programmes, the President’s Media Division said in a press release.

The release said the Fund had received financial contributions of Rs.1,668 million as at October 31.

The release said Rs.112 million has been allocated from the Fund to improve the laboratory facilities in the Batticaloa teaching hospital. Another Rs 3.5 million has been allocated for Rapid Test Kit improvement tasks.

The Fund has made an initial allocation of Rs.100 million for PCR tests and so far had utilised Rs. 42.6 million of that money. The Fund has allocated another Rs.100 million for advisory programmes and had used Rs. 24 million of that allocation for those purposes.

Rs. 86 million has been allocated from the Fund to improve quarantine facilities and upto now Rs. 38 million of that money had been used. The Fund was set up on March 23 to receive public and institutional donations and direct deposits to be used for COVID-19 control measures.
