‘Pillayan’ and four others re-remanded

Tamil Makkal Viduthalai Puligal Party leader and Batticaloa District Parliamentarian Sivanesathurai Chandrakanthan alias ‘Pillayan’ and four others were re-remanded up to November 24, 2020 when they were produced before Batticaloa High Court Judge D. Soosaithasan on Tuesday (10).

The Court premises were under strict security when this case was taken up. Council for ‘Pillayan’ pointed out that as his client was the Chairman of the Batticaloa District Development Committee, he had to preside at the meeting. The Batticaloa Prison Superintendent had no objection but the State Council objected. The Judge when ruled that with the permission of the Commissioner General of Prison the prisoner could preside at the meeting.

Former Eastern Provincial Councillor Edvin Silwa Krishnananthraja, Kanaganayagam alias Gajan Mama, Army Intelligent Officer M. Kaleel and former Army Officer Mathusinghe alias Vinoth were remanded in connection with the murder of former Batticaloa District Parliamentarian Joseph Pararajasingam at St. Mary’s Cathedral, Puliyantivu, Batticaloa during Christmas Mass in 2005.
