Twenty-three Bogambara inmates test positive for COVID-19

PCR investigations have revealed that 23 inmates who were detained at the Bogambara Prison quarantine centre after being arrested by the Police and remanded after being produced in court have contracted the COVID-19 virus.

Earlier, two prison guards and seven inmates were found to be infected with the COVID-19 virus.

Prison authorities had taken steps to direct several prison guards and detainees to undergo PCR examination after it was confirmed that an inmate of the Dumbara Prison was infected with COVID-19 virus. Those identified as COVID-19 positive infected at the Bogambara Prison and Dumbara Bogambara Prison have been referred to the Welisara and Teldeniya COVID-19 Treatment Hospitals.
