Special Committee to improve efficiency of healthcare facilities

The Special Progress Review Committee of the Health Ministry which convened yesterday under the patronage of Health Minister Pavithra Vanniarachchi has taken a number of decisions to enhance the efficiency of healthcare facilities for both COVID patients and other patients who visit hospitals during the pandemic.

The Special Progress Review Committee appointed to decide the measures need to be taken to prevent the spread of COVID-19 virus consists of Medical Administrators, administrative officials and consultant physicians.

During the meeting it was decided to refer the patients who have been diagnosed with COVID-19 to the appropriate hospitals separately according to their medical conditions, identify more hospitals at the divisional and district level to treat COVID positive patients in the future and provide them with the necessary medical facilities. According to sources, it was also decided to maintain a strong outpatient and inpatient care services for patients who are hospitalized for other ailments on a daily basis while maintaining treatment services for COVID-19 patients and take necessary measures to strengthen inward and OPD medical diagnostic and treatment services of government hospitals to provide facilities for the patients those who visit hospitals for other diseases.

The participants further discussed measures that need to be taken to ease the stress of health workers in order to enhance the productivity and the efficiency of the country's Health Service.

Health Ministry Secretary Retired Maj. Gen. Sanjeewa Munasinghe, Health Services Director General Dr. Asela Gunawardena, Additional Secretaries and Deputy Directors General, Specialists and other officials also participated on this occasion.
