The Anunayake of the Malwathu Chapter Ven. Dimbulkumbure Wimaladhamma Thera yesterday said all people regardless of coluor, politics, race or religion should unite to defeat the COVID-19 pandemic.

He said that the second wave of the virus is spreading across the country and is worse than the first wave and that it was important to face the crisis together irrespective of differences to eradicate it.

The Thera was speaking at a ceremony organised to distribute 40,000 face masks donated by Chinese philanthropist Amy Wang to the Chief Incumbent of the Malwatte Chapter to several organisations and individuals in the forefront of the country’s COVID-19 response.

The Thera said China has had close ties with Sri Lanka from ancient times and has supported many development, cultural and social initiatives.

Masks were distributed to places of worship, Kandy Municipal Council, Public Health Inspectors, Police, Army, Kandy District Secretariat and journalists.
