Bandarawela Thomian Savith Basnayake a prolific run getter

Savith Basnayake skipper of St. Thomas’ College Bandarawela turned in a fine batting display in the Under 19 Division Three inter Schools Cricket (Two day) tournament conducted by Sri Lanka Schools Cricket Association.

Right hand top order batsman Savith scored 716 runs in 10 matches with three centuries and one half century in the season of 2019/20. He captured 16 wickets as a right arm off spinner. and took14 catches

Savith Basnayake commenced cricket at St. Thomas’ College Bandarawela in under 13 ‘B’ team in 2013 as a right arm off spinner under the guidance of Ananda Wijenayake. He took 20 wickets in six matches that season. His best bowling performance was 6 wickets for 13 runs against Passara Central College. He represented the college under 13 ‘A’ team in 2014.

He scored 266 runs with a century and captured 13 wickets in seven matches in the season of 2015 as vice captain. He was selected for the National bowling squad (SLC) in 2014 and 2015. He was adjudged best batsman Junior level in the college in 2015.

He represented the college under 15 team in 2016 under the guidance of Ananda Wijenayake. He represented Badulla district under 15 team for the inter district Prima Champions trophy.

He scored 244 runs with two fifties and he captured 21 wickets in the Under15 season of 2017 as the captain under the guidance of Jaliya Wilathgamuwa.

He was deputy skipper of Badulla district under 15 team for the inter district Prima Champions trophy under Nishad Liyanage District coach Badulla.

He represented Uva province under 15 team for the inter provincial Prima Champions Trophy tournament in the same year under Chaminda Kodikara He was a member of the college 1st XI team in the season of 2017/2018.

He represented the college under 17 team in 2018 and scored 387 runs with two centuries and captured 15 wickets in 10 matches under the guidance of Jaliya Wilathgamuwa. He made centuries against Vidyaloka College Monaragala and Rajapaksa Central College Weeraketiya.

He represented the college 1st XI team in the season of 2018/19 and scored 734 runs with eight fifties and captured 29 wickets in 14 matches.

He led the college under 17 team in 2019 scoring 373 runs with a century and took 18 wickets in 11 matches. He scored 155 runs in 82 balls against Welimada Central College.

Savith Basnayake made three centuries, against Mahanama Navodya School Panadura (114), Wanduramba Central College (114) and Ananda Maithreya National School Balangoda (189) in the last season.

He established new batting records in the Uva Thomian Cricket Encounter (UTCE) (ODI) in 2019. He scored 132 runs in 89 balls and was adjudged best batsman and Man of the match in the annual UTCE 2019 which also became the fastest century in the UTCE. He established a new batting record for the school under 17 team. by scoring 155 runs off 82 balls against Welimada Central College.

His highest Individual score was 189 runs in 130 balls against Ananda Maithreya National School Balangoda last season.

His best bowling performance was 6/35 against Seethawaka Central in 2017 in 1st XI. He took 5 wickets for 14 runs against Trincomalee District in a district under 15 match in 2016.

Savith Basnayake is the College Table Tennis Captain and Senior Prefect.

Savith Basnayake became the National Rank No:2 in Under12 of Archery in 2014. He represented Sri Lanka in the Indoor Archery Youth Cup Singapore in 2013 and Indoor Archery Youth Cup Thailand in 2014.

He became the Champion in the Under12 category of the National Novices Table Tennis Tournament 2014.

He became Runner up in the under 15 and under 18 National Novices Table Tennis Tournament in 2015. He was Novices Runner-up in the All Island Intermediate in 2016. He is Uva Province Open Men’s Champion since 2014.

He has been the captain of the Uva Province Table Tennis Team since 2015. Savith Basnayake emerged as “The Most Popular Schoolboy Cricketer” of the season Division Three
