The access bridge to Matara’s iconic landmark - the Golden Island or the ‘Ran Doopatha’ is in a dilapidated state. This bridge caters to the hundreds of thousands of people who visit the temple on it, said the Chief Incumbent of the Sri Rohana Uposathagara Raja Maha Viharaya Ven. Vitiyala Indarathana Thera.

The Thera said that this temple dates back several centuries and is visited by a large number of local and foreign tourists who visit Matara City. The Thera said that the access bridge which was constructed temporarily in 2003 for the convenience of devotees, monks who come there for Upasampada Karma is in the dilapidated state, resulting in the Upasampada Vinayakarma of the Sri Rohana Sanga Sabawa being held at a different place.

“However if the bridge is constructed soon, it would be a great benefit to all who visit the temple on the ‘Ran Doopatha,’” Ven. Vitiyana Indarathana Thera said.
