Irrigation Department to construct canal across Heda Oya

The Irrigation Department has planned to construct a canal across the Heda Oya to carry water to the Muthukandiya Reservoir, Moneragala Irrigation Director S.M.A. Nelugolla said. In the Dombagahawela-Liyangolla Demodara area, an anicut will be constructed across the Heda Oya and a canal about 10km long will be constructed to carry water to the Muthukandiya Reservoir. The main aim of this project is to increase the water capacity of the reservoir, cultivate more land, and provide drinking water to the people in Siyambalanduwa.

The project is expected to cost around Rs.300 million and will be initiated on a proposal made by Minister of State for Paddy, Shashindra Rajapaksa.
