Imprisoned MPs not allowed to attend Parliament sessions

As a part of strict health regulations followed during the COVID-19 pandemic the Committee on Parliamentary Affairs has decided not to allow Members of Parliament who are presently at the Borella Prison and the Magazine Prison to attend sittings. Rishad Bathiudeen and Ratnapura District MP Premalal Jayasekara were not able to be present in the House for the Adjournment Motion.

“However, in the event of a vote being held in Parliament, the members will be brought to Parliament following health measures in accordance with health regulations,” Sergeant-at-Arms Narendra Fernando said.
