More PCR tests in Matara

The Matara Municipality Health Department is carrying out more PCR tests in the division, Chief Public Health Inspector (PHI) Eraj Weerasuriya said.

The tests are being carried out at public fairs, fisheries ports, markets, fish markets, public and private institutions and other public places in Matara, he said.

Five hundred PCR tests have been done in the division and eight persons detected with COVID-19 were directed to quarantine centres. Of them, five fully recovered and were discharged. Only three are under treatment, he said.

The PCR tests at the Matara public fair confirmed that all those tested were negative for COVID-19, Chief PHI Eraj Weerasuriya said.

The woman inmate at the Matara Prison who tested positive for COVID-19 has been directed to the Negombo Quarantine Centre. Of the 30 women officials who provided security for her, 27 are undergoing quarantine at the prison. Six officers are under quarantine at their homes. PCR tests on them will be held tomorrow, he said.
