Ruchira Sampath Jayatunga excellent volleyball player

Sri Lanka Junior and School Coloursman in Volleyball Dolawaththa Appuhamilage Don Ruchira Sampath Jayatunga excelled in volleyball for his Alma Mater Rajasinghe Maha Vidyalaya, Ruwanwella and Rantharu Sports Club.

Ruchira’s first school was Seethawaka National School, Avissawella and he was admitted to school in 2006. As an under 11 boy he participated in the school Inter House Sports Meet and came second in 75, 100 and 100x4 meter races and after that he did not take part in Athletics. He had a liking to cricket and attended under 13 cricket practices but he was not selected. In the mean time his father who too is a volleyball player Sujeewa Jayathunga took him to the Village Volleyball Club Sisira Sports Club and in 2014 he joined Rajasinghe Maha Vidyalaya Ruwanwella and in 2014 he represented the under 15 team and his school won the Divisional, Zonal, District and in the All Island Schools Tournament they came third and in the same year participating in the DSI Tournament they won the Divisional, Zonal, District and Provincial and in the All Island Tournament they were placed third. In the same year playing in the DIS under 17 tournament they were the Divisional, Zonal, District and Provincial Champions and in the finals they were the second.

With these performances under his belt he was selected to represent Sri Lanka for the Junior National Meet in Bahrain in 2018 and 24 teams participated and Sri Lanka won the third place. Same year representing the Munchee League Open Volleyball Tournament from Electricity Board they were the Runners Up and in the 2018 Dialog Tournament they won the second place.

In 2019 once again his school swept the board in Divisional, Zonal, District, Provincial and in the All Island Tournament they clinched the Schools Title and in the same year participating in the Lower Tournament they won the DSI Second Place.

He won School Colours at the School Colours Nite and later he was re awarded with school colours on two occasions. His coach Chaminda Jayarathne Prefect of Games Deshapriya Polgampola Master in Charge of Volleyball Ishara Hansapriya and deputy speaker Ranjith Siyambalapitiya helped Ruchira in numerous ways to come up the ladder.
