NAPVWC investigates threats against homicide witness

The National Authority for the Protection of Victims and Witnesses of Crime (NAPVWC) had received a complaint from the witness of a murder case (No. 40097/NS) M. Shivapakyam regarding threats made by the main respondent, Poowalapullai Prashanthan, and had assigned the Auxiliary and Security Division of Crime Victims and Witnesses to investigate the matter. The case was filed at the Batticaloa Magistrate’s Court by the CID.

Investigations had revealed that the witness had been threatened by the respondent, and details regarding the investigation was reported to court and the Attorney-General’s advice was sought.

Accordingly, the officers of the Auxiliary and Security Division of Crime Victims and Witnesses, together with the officers of the Batticaloa Police, had arrested the suspect Poowalapullai Prashanthan at Ariyampathi, Batticaloa, on November 12.

The arrested suspect was produced in court under the Assistance and Protection of Victims and Witnesses of a Crime Act No.04 of 2015 and was ordered to be remanded until November 23.
