All-rounder Raveen De Silva makes Nalanda proud

Sri Lanka youth cap Raveen De Silva, deputy skipper of Nalanda College Colombo showed good all-round performances in this season of the Under 19 Division One inter Schools Cricket (Two day) Tournament conducted by the Sri Lanka Schools Cricket Association.

Raveen scored 711 runs in 14 matches with two centuries and four half centuries in 2019/2020 season as a right hand batsman. He maintained a 47.40 average. His best innings was against Maliyadeva College Kurunegala where he scored an unbeaten 103 runs. He claimed 50 wickets in this season and his best bowling performance in an innings was against St. Anthony’s College, Wattala. Raveen picked six wickets for 30 runs in an innings. His best bowling performance against St. Anthony’s College Wattala comprised nine wickets for 43 runs. His best all-round performance was against Maliyadeva College Kurunegala where he scored unbeaten 103 runs and picked five wickets for 51 runs.

Raveen De Silva started cricket during his childhood under his father’s own cricket academy named Nishantha De Silva Cricket Academy and later he was selected to Nalanda College Cricket Academy in 2011. He represented college under 13 cricket ‘A’ team. Nalanda College under 13 ‘A’ team entered the quarter finals under Raveen De Silva in 2015.

Raveen represented the college Under 15 ‘A’ team in 2016. He led the school under 15 ‘A’ team in 2017. His team qualified to the quarterfinal round. He led Colombo North district under 15 team and Western Province North team at Prima Champions Cup in 2016 and 2017. Raveen represented the Sri Lanka Schools under 15 team which toured Malaysia and won the championship in 2017.

He represented the college first XI team in the 2016/17 season as a fresher. He represented the college under 19 team in the 2017/18 season and picked 50 wickets in this season as a right arm leg spinner. He played in their big match, “Battle of the Maroons” in 2018 as a fresher.

He represented the school under 17 team in 2018. Raveen got school Colours for cricket in 2018. Nalanda College under 17 team advanced to the quarterfinal round in the under 17 division One tournament. Raveen led the school’s under 17 team in 2019. He represented the team Galle in the Super Provincial under 19 tournament conducted by the Sri Lanka Cricket in 2018 and 2019.

Raveen represented Sri Lanka under 19 team in for tours inbound and outbound against Bangladesh, Australia and Pakistan in 2018 and 2019. He played one youth test and nine youth ODI’s so far.

He made the fastest century in the history of “Battle of the Maroons” two day game. He scored 100 runs against Ananda College, Colombo at SSC in the last big match in 2020. He was adjudged the Man of the Match in the big match.

Nalanda entered the quarterfinal round in the two day tournament. But due to the prevailing Covid-19 pandemic the SLSCA has decided to postpone all ongoing under 19 tournament matches until further notice.

Raveen will captain the Nalanda team in next schools cricket season 2020/21.

He represented Tamil Union C & AC in the Under 23 Premier League tournament in last September.
