COVID-19 positive cases top 20,000; total recoveries 14,497

Sri Lanka has recorded 400 new COVID-19 infected persons yesterday increasing the country’s total number of COVID positive cases to 20,171 while total infections from the dual clusters reached 16,642.

“Of them, 3,059 were from the Minuwangoda cluster and all other 13,580 were from the

Peliyagoda Fish Market cluster. Meanwhile, 10,503 fully-recovered COVID-19 patients from both Minuwangoda and fish market clusters have been discharged from hospitals,” health sources said.

As confirmed by the health authorities, all the new cases are close contacts of the Minuwangoda and Peliyagoda clusters.

Data showed that 14,497 of the confirmed patients have made complete recoveries from the virus and according to the Epidemiology Unit, 5,587 active cases are still under medical treatment at selected hospitals across the island.

Meanwhile, the National Operations Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak (NOCPCO) stated that around 12,095 PCR tests were carried out during the day on Sunday (22) alone.
