Former CID Director Shani Abeysekera currently in remand custody after being infected with the COVID-19 virus, has requested the government to ensure his safety as there are doubts about his security.
His relatives have also requested the Prisons Department to ensure the security of Shani Abeysekara, who is currently in remand custody. A request has also been made to the government. They have pointed out that a number of controversial investigations were carried out under the supervision of Abeysekera while he was CID Director.
Abeysekera’s relatives say that his life was in danger during his imprisonment.
Prison authorities are planning to send Shani Abeysekara to a hospital outside Colombo for treatment, but his relatives requested that he be referred to a Colombo hospital or treatment center.
