Sanduni Sansala of Sandalankawa Central - karateka par excellence

13 year old Sri Lanka Junior Karate Gold Medalist and Athlete Marasinghe Mudiyanselage Sanduni Sansala has brought honour and fame to her Alma Mater Sandalankawa Central College.

Sanduni was admitted to the Grade One of Junior School Napokuna Gonuwila Sandalankawa when Mr. Chinthaka was at the helm of the school and her first class teacher was Mrs. Ruwini. She particiapated in the Inter House Athletics Sports Meet of her School and in the under 7 and under 10 age groups she did 50 and 100 metres and came first and represented the school at the Divisional Meets.

In the mean time in 2016 her parents Chathura Buddhika and Chamari Nisansala noticing their daughter’s talents for Karate handed over their child to the Karate Coach former Sri Lanka Army Karateka and Coach Susantha Sugath Kumara and in the same time with the White Belt under 8 and 9 age groups she took part in the Karate Kata and won a Gold Medal and in the same year participating in the Karate Association Meets in 2016 she won her event and won a Medal and their school team came up to the Best Eight.

In 2018 she shifted to Sandalankawa Central College and in the School Inter House Karate Meet she came first in the under Eleven Age Group in Kata and Kumite In the same year participating in the Sri Lanka Inter Schools Championship under 12 age group she won a Gold Medal for Kumite and again in the District Meet she came first in Kumite and Kata.

With these performances under her belt she was selected for the Shimoga Open International Championship 2018 held in Shimoga, India and seven countries participated and Sanduni won Two Gold Medals for under 12 Kata and Kumite and it was a fine exposure for her to develop her skills and talents. In 2019 in the Inter School All Island National Meet representing the under 13 age group she was placed third and in the District Karate Do Tournament she won Participating in the Provincial Meet she came first in Kumite and third in Kata. She was awarded the Black Belt for her achievement in Karate and her Principal Asanka Chaminda and Teacher in Charge Mrs. Erandima are always very supportive along with her coach Susantha Sugath Kumara.
