Air Force celebrates New Year

The Air Force, under the leadership of its Commander, Air Marshal Sudarshana Pathirana, welcomed the New Year at Air Force Headquarters, yesterday, the Air Force said in a press release, yesterday.

The proceedings commenced with the arrival of the Commander, which was followed by the raising of the National Flag and the singing of the National Anthem.

A two-minute silence was observed by all personnel who were present, in remembrance of those who made the supreme sacrifice in the name of the motherland, after which the Public Service Pledge was made.

Commander Pathirana addressed all the members at Air Force Headquarters at the event, which included Members of the Air Force Board of Management, Officers, Other Ranks, and civilians. This address was streamed live to all establishments of the SLAF simultaneously.

The Commander, in his speech, acknowledged that the year 2020 brought forward unprecedented challenges like never before.

He also appreciated the dedication of all Air Force personnel in successfully facing those challenges.

With the Air Force set to celebrate its 70th Anniversary this year, Commander Pathirana stated that the Air Force is expected to perform its role and more with utmost dedication and discipline, in order to drive the motherland forward in line with the government’s ‘Vistas of Prosperity and Splendour’ policy. A multi-religious ceremony was also held at the Air Force Headquarters Lobby to invoke blessings on its personnel with the dawn of the New Year.
