Consumers in Matale said that they have been inconvenienced by the recent increase in egg prices.
They said that the price of an egg, which was around Rs.15 to Rs. 16 about a week ago, has now been increased to Rs.20 to Rs. 22.
When inquired, traders in Matale said that the price hikes were due to the rise in poultry food and medicine. They added that the current decline in egg production is another major factor for the price hike as well.
Traders also said that these prices would likely remain unchanged for another two to three months.
