Sabaragamuwa Governor gathers forces against COVID

Sabaragamuwa Province Governor Tikiri Kobbekaduwa said that a solution will be reached after discussions with the Board of Investment (BOI) regarding the spread of COVID in the Seethawaka Industrial Estate in Avissawella.

He held a special discussion in this regard at the Kegalla District Secretariat recently.

Kegalle District Health Services Director Dr. Kumar Wickramasinghe said that a COVID infected person had died in Aranayake.

He said that the person had died while under treatment for another ailment at the Kandy Hospital. Over 1,136 COVID infected have been detected from the district, he said.

The Kegalle District has reported five COVID deaths as well, he said.

Dr. Kumar said that about 60 Public Health Inspectors (PHIs) have been working in the Kegalle District and each serves over 1,000 in 10 villages. He said that a higher number of COVID cases were reported from Dehiowita, Ruwanwella, Yatiyantota and Deraniyagala near the Seethawaka Industrial Estate.

Governor Tikiri Kobbekaduwa said that the retired PHIs in the Sabaragamuwa Province will be recalled to control the virus.

State Ministers Kanaka Herath and Tharaka Balasuriya, Kegalle District Parliamentarian and District Coordinating Committee Co-Chairman Rajika Wickramasinghe, Parliamentarians Udayakantha Goonetileke and Sudath Manjula were present.
