Leopard fear in Ampara

Leopards had killed two farmers and injured several others in Panama in the Ampara District.

A farmer of Panama, Anjana Surajeeva (59), who was missing two weeks ago, is believed to have been killed by a leopard and several body parts, which farmers said of Anjana’s, have been found near his paddy field. Heen Appu Abeysiri (56) had been attacked by a leopard, while he was working at his paddy field near the Kudumpikala Park and died on the spot. Another, P.Prematilake, had a narrow shave and have been admitted to the Ampara Hospital, they said.

Ampara District Secretary D.M.L. Bandaranayake convened a meeting to discuss the issue at the Army Camp in Sengamam.

Divisional Secretary Santharuwan Anuruddha, Sengamam Army Commanding Officer Lt. Colonel AM.M.P.K. Medegedera, Asst.Director Wild Life Upali Saranga and Heads of Civil Societies of Panama attended. A committee was appointed to provide protection to the farmers.
