Work on 3,000 housing units for middle-income families begins

Construction work on 3,000 of 5,000 housing units for middle income families will commence in Orugodawatta today under the patronage of Urban Development, Coast Conservation, Waste Disposal and Community Cleanliness State Minister Dr. Nalaka Godahewa and Ministry Secretary Sirinimal Perera.

The housing units will be constructed in Orugodawatta, Blumendhal, Orugodawatte, Makumbura and Boralesgamuwa under the first phase of the Government programme of building 5,000 housing units for the middle income families .This housing programme will be implemented in Getabe in the Kandy District and Peliyagoda in the Gampaha Dstrict. The Governemnt will spend Rs 40 billion for the project.

This programme will provide houses to the State and public sector employees closer to their work places and each housing unit has floor area of 700 x 900 square feet. The housing units of 700 square feet consists of two bedrooms, while housing units with 900 square feet have three bedrooms.
