Govt leading masses on deceptive path - UNP

United National Party (UNP) Deputy Leader Ruwan Wijewardene said the government is trying to bring COVID-19 to the country by bringing in foreigners saying that it wants to rebuild the tourism industry.

As a result, there is a risk of another COVID-19 cluster being created through tourists from Ukraine, he added.

He expressed these views speaking to the media before joining the Ratnapura District Programme of the United National Party (UNP) reorganization’s Islandwide district programme under the theme ‘Mulawa Paradamu - Ek Wee Nagitimu’ (Defeat the Deception - Let’s Rise Together), after paying homage to the historic Saman Devalaya.

Speaking further he stated that the government which is only working to protect its power has failed to protect the health of the people of the country. The government has failed to control the rapidly spreading COVID-19 virus. The government is spewing myths in society today and the government is doing so with the intention of diverting massive public opposition to the government’s failures and weaknesses, he added.

He also said the group in the present government which had made absurd allegations that state resources were being sold by the UNP in the past is now working to make those absurd allegations a reality. The government is also working to sell the stadium at the Colombo Air Force headquarters, he said.

Former MPs Palitha Range Bandara, Palitha Thewarapperuma, Sandith Samarasinghe, Prof.Ashu Marasinghe, Saman Ratnapriya and Ratnapura District UNP leaders were present.
