Slight decrease in number of daily COVID-19 positive cases

Chief Epidemiologist Dr. Sudath Samaraweera yesterday stated that there is a slight decrease in the number of daily COVID-19 positive cases detected in the country.

"But there are still hundreds of new cases being reported each day in the country. Colombo Municipal Council area is still at high risk for COVID-19," he said.

He further said that the health authorities are currently conducting random PCR tests and rapid antigen tests covering all the districts of the country. Measures have also been taken to conduct PCR tests or rapid antigen tests for all the patients who visit hospitals with similar symptoms to COVID-19. Through these measures we are hoping to make districts with less COVID cases, COVID free districts. As per the statistics of the Epidemiology Unit, the total number of COVID-19 positive patients detected in the country reached 44,774 yesterday. Around 37,817 of them have recovered while 6,744 patients remain in hospitals and health care centres.

Meanwhile, the total number Covid-19 related fatalities in Sri Lanka rose to 213 with two deaths confirmed by the Director-General of Health Services on Sunday (3).
