The main objective of the project is to transform the City of Colombo into one of the fastest growing capitals of South Asia, giving the urban population the opportunity to experience eco-friendly landscaping and to add economic value to it.

A plan was drawn up as a pilot project for the Green Infrastructure Facility Plan along the newly constructed Scout Road connecting the site of the Army Headquarters with the Galle Face Green.

The Urban Forest Park which is spread over two acres was commissioned as a three phase project. The amount spent was Rs. 135 million. It is notable that this project was completed within a short period of 6 Months. The project design, landscape consultancy and architecture were done by the Urban Development Authority and the main project contractor was the Sri Lanka Land Development Corporation.
