Sri Lanka youth cap Ashian Daniel does St. Joseph’s proud

Sri Lanka youth cap, right hand batsman and right arm off spinner Ashian Angelo Daniel is a proud product of St. Joseph’s College Colombo who has turned in excellent bowling performances in the Under-19 division One inter Schools Cricket (Two day) tournaments and, under 13, 15 and 17 tournaments conducted by Sri Lanka Schools Cricket Association.

Ashian Daniel was born on 10th February 2001 and was admitted to St. Joseph’s College Colombo in 2007. He started his Cricket career at the college Cricket academy under coach Anil Gunasinghe in 2009. He commenced school Cricket career in 2011 He represented the school under 13 C team and claimed 13 wickets. He represented the under 13 ‘A’ team in three seasons under Junior head coach Janaka Deegoda Gamage. He claimed 21 wickets in 2012. He took 25 wickets in under 13 season of 2013 and also scored over 300 runs with four fifties as captain in 2014.

He represented under 15 teams in 2015 and 2016 under the guidance of junior coach Anil Gunasinghe. He led the under 15 team in 2016 and claimed 33 wickets in 2016. He represented Colombo district North team and Western province North team in the Prima Champions Trophy under 15 inter district and inter province tournaments conducted by Sri Lanka Cricket in 2015 and 2016.

He represented the college under 17 team in two seasons in 2017 and 2018 under the senior coach Roger Wijesuriya. He led the champion team in the under 17 tournament in 2018. He claimed 20 wickets in the under 17 season of 2018.

He represented the school 1st XI cricket team as a fresher in 2017/18. He represented the college under 19 team in three seasons 2017/18, 2018/19 and 2019/20. and claimed 163 wickets in the three seasons. He claimed 75 wickets in the season of 2017/18. He led the school first XI team in the 2018/19 season. St. Joseph’s College won the under 19 Two day title in 2018/19 and he took 44 wickets in that season

He claimed 40 wickets with 4 five wicket hauls and One 10 wicket haul in seven matches in the last season 2019/20 under Niroshan Bandarathilake the senior coach. He missed many school matches due to national duty. His best bowling performance in an innings was 6 for 37 against Maris Stella College Negombo. His best bowling performance in a match was 10 wickets for 126 runs against Mahinda college Galle.

St. Joseph’s College Colombo advanced to the quarter final of under 19 division One (Two day) Cricket tournament in the last season. Ashian Daniel claimed 12 wickets in three big matches “Battle of Saints” against St. Peter’s College.

Due to the prevailing health concerns (Covid-19), the SLSCA decided to postpone the Under 19 all divisions and Under 13 division 111 tournament matches until further notice. (From March 15).

He played under 19 provincial tournaments for Dambulla and Western province North in 2018 and 2019.and claimed 17 wickets in nine matches.

He represented Sri Lanka under 19 against Bangladesh under 19, Australia under 19, Pakistan under 19, Asia Cup, West Indies, England tri-nation series and ICC under 19 World Cup in 2020. He claimed 34 wickets in under 19 Youth internationals and youth tests. His best bowling performance was 5 wickets for 35 runs against Bangladesh under 19.

He passed the O/L with 3A’s, 2B’s, 2C’s and 2 S’s in 2017. He sat the A/L exam in Commerce stream in 2020. Ashian Daniel represented NCC in the last Premier trophy tournament.and took 9 wickets in two matches. He represented NCC in the last season of SLC Major 23 inter club tournament in 2020. He took 5 wickets in 4 matches.
