Empowered with poetry

A Sri Lankan student in Birrong Girls’ High School, Sydney, Australia Aamina Musthafa launched her second poetry book “ Alone with a lifetime “ at Granville Community Center Sydney, Australia recently.

She presented the first copy of her book to her friends Ashma Riyas and Rana. She also presented a copy of the book to her English teacher, Bolanca. Aamina thanked Story Factory, Penguin Random House and Bilal. She also thanked her family, friends and everyone else who supported her.

A past pupil of Ilma International Girls’ School, Colombo, from pre-grade to year 8, Aamina moved to Australia with both her sisters (Hajara and Sameena) and her parents (Ziyada and Musthafa). She has always been a creative person. However, creativity wasn’t something that she was encouraged to explore until her English teacher in MIEC asked her to keep a creative journal.

The book was published through Story Factory. A select group of young writers took part in a year-long writing programme at Story Factory where they were mentored by Bilal and Richard.
