A donation of exercise books, school bags, raincoats, colour pencils, oil pastels, pens, pencils, shoes and many other items to nearly 50 poor students in the Mannar district has been made by Rosie Thuring along with ‘The Spirit of Giving’.

The event took place at the Kaddukarankudiyiruppu Roman Catholic Tamil Mix School in Talaimannar recently under the guidance and support of Brigadier Anuruddha Seneviratne and Principal Jesudasan John kennedy Ravi.

Lt. Col. A. M. V. D. Abeysinghe RSP USP, Army officers of the 11th Regiment Sri Lanka Artillery, Army officers of 543 Brigade were also participated at this event.

Rosie Thuring speaking said that she is focusing on underprivileged children in Sri Lanka in order to give them a chance to progress in life through education. She is planning to conduct many projects to help the underprivileged children in various parts of Sri Lanka in the future and would welcome like-minded people who are ready and willing to contribute their donations and efforts in helping us to help these children.

Brig. Anuruddha Seneviratne said that the main aim of this project was to help the poor people, their families and children living in Talaimannar and parents are finding it difficult to spend on children's education. What I think is by doing this kind of charity projects, it would establish a link between the North and South and to get to know each other, leaving aside community differences and to progress towards prosperity. We want these children to study hard and go to universities, find good jobs and to become good citizens of this country. Most of these people are engaged in the fishing industry and during rough sea conditions they are unable to survive with a low income. They are finding it difficult to provide proper education for their children.

“We would like to see genuine donors to come here and to support these poor children next year and in the future,” he said.
