Around 25,000 km of road renovation work to be completed by year end - Johnston

Highways Minister Johnston Fernando said yesterday around 25,000 km of the road network will be renovated and completed by the end of 2021.

He further said that he is ready to take up the challenge of renovating 100,000 km of roads across the country within next four years as envisaged in President Gotabaya Rajapaksa’s National Policy Framework, “Vistas of Prosperity and Splendour.”

The development of the road network will have a positive impact on the well-being of the people and the country’s. That is why we have launched a programme of developing 100,000km of roads during the next four years. The programme is already being implemented to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals in an environmental friendly manner.

Under this programme, all roads and rural roads which give accesses to main roads and expressways in the country will also be redeveloped to ease the traffic congestion.
