Sri Lanka Youth cap Thaveesha excels for Richmond

Sri Lanka Youth cap Thaveesha Abhishek Kahaduwarachchi of Richmond College, Galle showed good batting performances in this year’s Under 19 Division One inter Schools Cricket (Two day) tournament conducted by Sri Lanka Schools Cricket Association.

Thaveesha was born on 28th October in 2000 at Galle. He attended Richmond College in 2006. He passed the Grade five scholarship exam in 2010. He got through with O/L (2A’s, 4B’s, 2C’s and 1S) in 2016. Thaveesha did his A/L exam in Commerce stream in 2020.

He started his cricket career under his first coach Dhanushka Denagama at Parga Cricket Academy, Galle in 2008. He entered school cricket at Richmond College in 2009. He represented the school under 13 ‘B’ team in 2010. He led the school under 13 team ‘B’ and made two centuries against Wanduramba Central College and Amarasooriya College Meepawala in 2011. He scored more than 400 runs in the same tournament. He was promoted to the school under 13 ‘A’ team which became champions in the under 13 division One All Island tournament in the same season.

He scored 375 runs with three fifties in 2012. He led the school under 13 team in 2013 but unfortunately no tournaments were played in that year and only few friendly matches were played. Thaveesha scored three fifties in the season.

He represented the college under 15 team and scored more than 200 runs in 2014. He represented the Galle District team in the Prima Trophy inter district under 15 tournament in the same year. He represented Sri Lanka Schools under 15 team in their tour of Malaysia under coach Viraj Chaminda in 2015. Thaveesha scored more than 400 runs with five fifties as the skipper in under 15 tournament in 2015. Richmond College entered the semi final in the tournament in 2015. He represented the Galle District team in the Prima Trophy tournament in 2015.

He represented the school first XI team as a fresher under senior coach Dhammika Sudarshana in 2015/16. He scored more than 650 runs with a century and three fifties in this season. He scored 124 runs against Anuradhapura Central College. He scored unbeaten 42 runs against arch rival Mahinda College. Thveesha was the baby of the Richmond team in the Lovers’ Quarrel big match in 2016. He was a member of the all island best team runner up team in the Mobitel-Sunday Observer School Cricket awards in 2016.

Thaveesha led the school under 17 team in 2016. He scored more than 300 runs with three half centuries. He scored unbeaten 99 runs against Mahinda College. He scored over 450 runs with a century and two fifties in 2016/17, under 19 season. He made 188 runs against St. Thomas College Matara. He scored 38 runs and 34 runs in the big match in 2017. He was a member of the Limited Over champion team and two-day runner up team. He represented the champion Southern team in the under 19 provincial tournament in 2017.

Thaveesha led the school under 17 team in 2017. He scored more than 350 runs with a century and four fifties. He scored 116 runs against St. Servatius Matara. He scored over 600 runs with four fifties in the under 19 season in 2017/18. He was the Best Batsman in the big match in 2018. He scored 16 runs and unbeaten 78 runs. He was a member of the Limited Over champion Richmond team. He represented team Galle in the under 19 Super Provincial tournament in 2018. Thaveesha led the college under 19 team in the season of 2018-19. He scored over 600 runs in nine matches with two centuries and three fifties. He missed few school matches due to National duty. He made centuries against St. Aloysius Galle and Wesley Colombo.

He was the winning captain in the 114th Lovers’ Quarrel big match against their arch rival Mahinda College in 2019. He played the winning knock. He scored unbeaten 99 runs and was the Best Batsman and Man of the Match. His team was runner-up in the Limited Overs tournament. He led the team Galle in under 19 Super Provincial tournament in 2019. He made two fifties in this tournament.

Thaveesha scored only 270 runs in eight matches with a half century in the last under 19 season 2019/20. He missed school matches due to National duty. His best batting performance being 77 runs against Mahanama College Colombo in the two day pre quarter final. He scored more than 2400 runs with five centuries and six half centuries in 65 matches and 5 seasons. Thaveesha Abhishek was selected to the Sri Lanka under 19 team in 2018.

He represented Sri Lanka under 19 team against Australia under 19’s, Pakistan under 19’s, Bangladesh under 19’s, Youth Asia Cup and ICC Youth World Cup at South Africa. He scored 180 runs in seven Youth ODIs. His best batting performance being 64 runs against Pakistan under 19’s. Thaveesha represented Saracens CC in the Premier Club tournament in 2019.

Southern provincial coaches, Hashan Thilakarathne, Upul Chandana, Chaminda Vaz, Chamila Gamage and Sachith Pathirana coaching staff of Sri Lanka under 19, managers of SL under 19, officials and players of Saracens SC, all students, school teammates, their parents, his family members and all persons helped him.
