‘Strictly adhere to health guidelines’

Health officials stressed the importance of strictly adhering to the health guidelines issued by the health authorities while the country gradually commences the usual daily routine.

This was stressed during the COVID-19 Virus Control Performance Action Review Committee meeting held under the patronage of Health Minister Pavithra Wanniarachchi yesterday.

They further stressed the importance of following guidelines issued to be followed by tourists visiting Sri Lanka.

Officials further pointed out that the other private and public sector institutions should cooperate with the health authorities in the same manner as the Armed Forces and the Police in assisting the anti-COVID 19 campaign of the country.

According to the latest data, nearly 13,000 beds have been allocated at 72 COVID Treatment Centres islandwide to treat COVID patients.

Deputy Director General of Health Services Dr. Lal Pannipitiya said that two private hotels in Hikkaduwa and Koggala which have been upgraded as primary care centres have a capacity of 220 beds.

The Ministry of Health also urges the public not to be misled by the misconceptions spread by various groups as the waste discharged from each of these treatment centers is treated with T.C.L and disposed of only through sewerage systems.

Secretary to the Ministry of Health Maj. Gen. Sanjeewa Munasinghe, Director General of Health Services Dr. Asela Gunawardena, State Ministry Secretary Dr. Amal Harsha de Silva, Additional Secretary (Medical Services) Dr. Sunil Alwis also participated in this occasion.
