Programme to resolve microfinance crisis

State Minister Shehan Semasinghe and Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) Governor Prof. W.D. Lakshman yesterday agreed to put in place a comprehensive programme to provide speedy solution to the microfinance crisis faced by the rural poor community.

State Minister Semasinghe during a meeting with the CBSL Governor said that the Micro Finance Act No. 6 of 2006 needs to be amended as per the prevailing conditions. The duo also exchanged views on small and medium scale and young entrepreneurs and the provision of low interest loans to them.

State Ministry Secretary Neil Bandara Hapugahinna, Additional Secretary C. D Kaluarachchi, Samurdhi Director General Bandula Thilakasiri and CB officials were present.
